I have never been much of an adrenaline junkie, I prefer hiking to bunging jumping and down hill skiing to park skiing. I like my two feet on the ground and my children’s wheels on the earth, which almost never happens.

Last year we had the chance to be in Phoenix during the winter months. Anyone visiting Phoenix in January and February is in for a glorious treat, warmth and sun when the rest of the country is under a blanket of snow. We had a little spare time after my husbands meetings so we decided to be brave and rent ATV’s in Phoenix. We took off with some colleagues and I didn’t want to thought of as the pansy of the group so I kept up.

Never having gone very far or very fast on an ATV before, I found this newfound speed exhilarating. I felt daring and brave and actually, oddly enough, safe. The company we rented from outfitted us with protective gear so I felt a little invincible. I rode like the wind and loved every minute of it.

My husband has always been an avid biker so the second day we rented dirt bikes and cruised the desert. I wasn’t as brave on the dirt bikes as the ATV, they don’t feel as stable to me, but he loved just riding and not worrying about motorcycle repairs or hauling them to and from the site.

Still not an adrenaline junkie, but ATV’s are a great afternoon getaway to bring out the kid in us even if our wheels are always on the ground.
