As the autumn nights draw in and you say goodbye to your caravan, don’t be tempted to abandon it with little more than a quick tidy round. Emptying the bin, closing the curtains and locking it up for several months are not enough to see it safely through the harshness of a British winter. Your caravan has served you well, so treat it to some care and respect and put it lovingly into hibernation. By putting in effort now, you’ll be rewarded in Spring by a caravan all ready to use in the warm months to come. How much nicer than facing last season’s newspapers, fusty cushions and an alarming smell from the fridge!
Your first job is to take out all the contents of your caravan, including all its cushions. If you have room to store the mattress inside your house, this is even better. Then give the inside a thorough clean and polish, not forgetting the appliances, and leave the fridge door open to stop mould developing. Leave all taps in their open position and plug the drain holes. That’s the inside done. Continue reading ‘Taking On The Great British Winter With Your Caravan Cover’ »

I’m trying to sell my RV, so I’ve been looking up little things I can do easily myself to get it in tip-top shape. Obviously, getting it nice and clean is a big part of the process. In the midst of my preparations, I came across some good tips on cleaning a pop-up, the better to sell my trailer.
My RV Is Not All Canvas
First, I didn’t even realize that the canvas sides weren’t necessarily all canvas, that a lot of manufacturers use a lot of vinyl as well. Cleaning vinyl requires slightly different tactics than cleaning pure canvas would. Continue reading ‘Cleaning the Pop-Up to Sell My RV’ »

I’m about to sell my RV, so I’ve been going through it, trying not to take its condition and features for granted because I’m so used to them. Rather, I am trying to see it all through the eyes of someone who’s seeing it for the first time and trying to decide if they want to buy it or not.
Checking the Windows
I’ve already gone through the outside and a lot of the inside in my inspection. Pretending to be a prospective buyer, I’ve looked at the beds, the bathroom, the storage spaces, the lights, and the fan. I’ve analyzed the shape of the floors, the ceiling, the appliances, and the furniture. Now I’m studying the windows. Are they tinted? I don’t even notice anymore, myself. It’s funny how you can forget details of things you see just about every day. Yes, they are tinted; is the tinting in good shape? Are the windows leaking at all, and do they still open and close with relative ease? Continue reading ‘To-Do List to Sell My RV’ »

Before I try to sell my RV, I need to take it to my mechanic to make sure everything is in good working order and there aren’t any underlying or hidden problems of which I had been unaware. Some of these things I can check myself, but about some things I would like to get an expert or at least a back-up opinion.
Inspecting the Motor
Obviously, the first matter of business to ensure that the motor starts, and does so without a fuss-that’s the first thing a prospective buyer will notice when test-driving! It should run and idle smoothly and power up hills without a struggle. I also need to make sure that I know the size and manufacturer of the motor, because I’ll probably be asked.
