Winter Driving Tip – Go Backwards With Front Wheel Drive

March 6, 2010 · Filed Under Automotive, Tips and Tricks · Comments Off

Winter driving can be challenging enough without having someone tell you to drive in reverse, but that’s exactly what I’m going to recommend for rare situations when driving forwards with front wheel drive just doesn’t cut it.

Admittedly, the idea of driving backwards is a bit odd, but in special circumstances it works better with a front wheel drive vehicle than going forward. The special circumstances are deep snow and going uphill.

For those of us who live with a steep and long driveway, it can be challenging to make it uphill in deep snow, even with front wheel drive. Going backwards with a front wheel drive vehicle can help overcome the difficulty. Here’s why:

* Your drive wheels are lower, so gravity shifts more weight on them for better traction.
* You have to drive more slowly to maintain control of direction, and that tends to promote traction instead of wheel spinning.
* The front wheels of the car are now on compacted snow (thanks to the rear wheels) instead of loose snow, so that provides added traction. Read more

March 6, 2010 · Filed Under Automotive, Cars · Comments Off

The new Mustang concept car brought a buzz back in 2003 and not just among Mustang enthusiasts. Others, who had never thought seriously about buying a new pony car were lining up in showrooms to get their hands on the new pony car’s modern classic styling.

The 2010 model takes all that was good about the new style and makes it even better.

The one major criticism of the interior, was the hard plastic dash and cheap looking door panels. Sure, the style was right on, but bean counters won over the Mustang designers. That all changed for the 2010 Mustang. Read more

The Hyundai Santa Fe may not quite live up to its name of Holy Spirit in Spanish, but it does have a pair of spirited V6 engines that can be chosen. Unlike other cars where the higher-powered engine gives a decline in fuel efficiency, the bigger Santa Fe engine doesn’t reduce fuel efficiency much at all.

The basic GLS version of the Santa Fe is a 2.7 liter, 185 horsepower engine that has a compression ratio of 10, a 86.7 mm bore and a 75 mm stroke. Purchasing a New Versus Used Truck

March 3, 2010 · Filed Under Automotive, Trucks · Comments Off

When pursuing a career as a truck driver owner-operator, there are many things to consider in taking the next step. One of them is how to get a new truck. Rather than leasing one from an employer, it is always more profitable to own one when the work is available or if someone wants to own their own company. Deciding whether to buy a new or used truck is key in making a profit versus barely getting by. Obtaining commercial truck financing is usually the difference between buying a new or used vehicle.

New Equipment

Having a new vehicle of any sort is always nice, whether it is a personal vehicle or one used for business. It has a special smell, is spry and comes with all of the state-of-the-art features. Paying for it is the biggest obstacle most people face. Excellent credit is required. Many lenders are leery of first-time owner-operators purchasing new equipment and may not be willing to qualify the applicant for a loan. Once the person is approved, several things must be done before the truck is road ready. Paying for taxes, titles, tags and a business license are also required. Making regular monthly payments on the vehicle regardless of how much money is coming in is also a consideration. Keep in mind that payments are higher for a new truck than an old one. Read more

Your car is your lifeline to the public. It is how you go and leave from the workplace, how to obtain your grocery store, and how you can connect with friends for a Friday evening on the town. In fact, there are very few places where public transport is good enough to compensate for not having an automobile.

Whereas most of us do not live in big cities, mass transportation systems in our cars are literally a necessity. Because of this, buying a car is very important. Though, it is also a very expensive investment, and because of money you must be sure you think about several factors.

Break Even Point For The US Domestic Auto Industry

March 2, 2010 · Filed Under Automotive · Comments Off

In April 2009 Ford declared that it would not need government aid and claimed that it had a plan to break even in two years. Ford has been ahead of its main rival General Motors in scaling down its business by selling Aston Martin, Land Rover and Jaguar over the past two years. GM, meanwhile, went through a massive reorganization after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. GM is temporarily majority owned by US government after it invested $57.6 billion in the company.

Per the plan GM executives presented in congressional hearings the company would reach the break-even point by 2011. They further declared that they would cut costs by eliminating 47,000 jobs, closing five more unprofitable factories and cut at least $18 billion in debt from its balance sheet. It was expected that these cost cuts would allow the company to break even when the U.S. auto market returned to between 11.5 million to 12 million vehicles sold per year. Read more
