Tourist guide to Malaga
Malaga is a port city located in the South of Spain, on the Costa Del Sol region of the Mediterranean coast line. The cities economy now surrounds the tourist trade although originally it was a harbour in which to import and export goods. The name itself derives from the Phoenician word for salt ‘Malaka’, in which is believed to be because fish was salted near the harbour.
Architecture
Being a former Islamic Spanish stronghold the city like many of its time still shows signs of the fortification which contained the area during this period. It has a quadrangular plan in which has both an inner and outer wall, once used to protect the city from invasion. The oldest building within the city is the Roman Theatre which is thought to date back to 1st century BC. The church of Santiago is a must see as the building is a magnificent example of the gothic-mudejar hybrid in which shows a classic example of both Islamic and Christian influence. Read more
