1.A good way to essentially, get a discount car rental is to, once you return the car, fill the tank with the cheapest no-name gas you could find, not for revenge or anything, but because car rental companies, require customers to fill the gas tank before returning it, and it you don’t they’ll fill it for you with the company pump but at a higher price, now we don’t want that, so be sure to fill your tank before you return the car.

2.To get the discount off of discount car rental, make early reservations, some car rental companies give discounts or free upgrades for customers who reserve their cars early.

3.When you’re planning to use your rental car for more than five days, or longer, ask the rental car company if you can get discount car rentals for a weekly rate, most companies offer discounts for the sixth and seventh day for weekly rentals.

4.Ask your travel agency if you could get discount car rentals if you acquire packages like fly-stay-drive or fly-drive. Most travel agencies as well as hotels offer these programs at a discounted price, what’s good about this is that you get a discount and you shoot two to three birds with one stone.

5.When you go to a car rental company, ask them if you could get a discount car rental in exchange for your frequent flyer miles, this is good for those miles that are about to expire, so instead of throwing them away you’d get one last use for them.

6.One way to get a discount car rental or maybe just the best deal for your money is to look for sites or rental car firms that accepts a pre-determined budget. This is when you indicate the money you’re willing to spend for the car rental, most rental car companies will give you the program that has the biggest discount car rental and the best deal for you, of course it pays to know if the company has a history of fraud, in this day and age, you can’t really trust people that much with your money, check out the car before you reserve.

7.Ask the rental company for discount car rentals when you frequently rent a car at their firm, they’re most likely to give discounts or free upgrades if you always rent with them.

8.Get discount car rentals by reserving your car through the internet. Most rental firms have internet only discounts that can save you a lot of money, look up the rental firm that has the greatest discount for the same value.

9.To get a discount car rental upgrade, try going to pick up your car just as the shop is opening, there’ll be a shortage in the economy cars, and you’ll probably get a free upgrade when they can’t give you the car you reserved.

Have you ever just wanted to get away? Experience the world in all its beauty and majesty, there are many ways to do this and a weekend trip just may be exactly what you need. This is where car rentals come into the picture. If you want to take a weekend getaway and maybe you live in the city and don’t have a car or are just not willing to put the mileage on your own. Car rentals can be the answer to your prayers.

Many companies offer these services and you can find them all over the United States, trust me. There is no shortage of car rentals companies. There are many different factors that you will want to take into account before you make your final decision though. For example, you have such choices such as economy, luxury, SUVs, minivan, trucks, and even more! I would recommend shopping around at a few different places before you make your final verdict.

Here are some tips that one can go through to make sure they do not make before they rent a car.

1)Don’t Forget To Check The Car’s Condition

Sometimes a company will blame damage on you so in order to avoid that make sure you check out the condition of the car.

2)Don’t Actually Purchase The Car On The Internet

You never know about the car rentals that you think you have until you get there. Some people check out the cars online, get to the lot and find out it wasn’t the car they wanted. Avoid this situation and make sure you wait until you get there to pay for your car rentals.

3)Hidden Fees And Terms That You Would Never Have Thought Of

Some agencies aren’t as honest when it comes hidden fees and unless you are working with reputable companies (and sometimes even with reputable companies) you want to thoroughly look through your contract for any sort of hidden fees or things that will stop you from have a great time with your new car for the weekend!

4)Keeping The Car Clean

Make sure that even if the car was dirty when you got it, that you clean it out and try to keep it spick and span. The company that you rent the car from will not be very happy if they thought they rented you out a clean car and you return it filed with muck and grime. They are easy to clean and could save you lot money in the long run if the agency decided to charge you to clean it themselves. I would highly recommend just taking a few minutes out of your day to do the work yourself to ensure that you will have not have to worry about this situation taking place.

Regardless of what you choose to do in with your car rentals, just always remember to have a great time and enjoy yourself. Life is too short to not take vacations!

Even if you own your own car and pay on an auto loan, there may still be times when you will need to rent a car. Maybe you are traveling and need a ride around a new area or perhaps you are planning a road trip and need a more accommodating vehicle. Whatever the reason, renting a car is not as easy as it used to be. There are a lot of deals to sort through and a lot of changes have been made and if you expect to get a fair price for your rental, here are a few things you need to know:

Dig For Deals

With the advent of the internet, you are likely to find the best deals online. There are a lot of sites that cater to rental vehicles but you might have to sift through a bunch to make sure they are legitimate and actually have good deals. Make sure when you do find something worthwhile that you book it right away to keep your good rate. Also make sure that if the site you are using notes a decrease in price, you will also be eligible to receive it.

Rent With a Credit Card

When you try and rent a vehicle with something other than a major credit card, you might find it to be a much bigger hassle because of the amount of paperwork necessary, such as your pay stubs and utility bills copies. The fees also may be greater if you do not make your reservation with a credit card.

Frequent Renter Deals

If you find that you rent vehicles often for whatever reason, you may want to consider going directly to the source and contact a big company that may offer a frequency program that will award you discount pricing for rentals and also make it easier to rent.

Tons of Fees

Depending on where you rent a vehicle, you may find there are a bunch of fees in addition to the rental fees. Some of these fees include late fees, mileage fees, fuel charges for failing to refill the tank, and other charges for additional drivers.

Jacked Up Taxes

Many local rental companies charge excessive taxes due to local government regulations. Some higher taxes will be incurred only at the airport rental locations but many local place will impose taxes just as high. Before you rent, even if you are going far away from home, check out different places around the area that may offer cheaper rates and less taxes.

Check Out Damage Clause

Double check with your insurance company before renting a vehicle and see if they will cover you in the event of an accident. Sometimes the credit card you use will also provide rental insurance coverage. Find out what you are covered for even when it comes to minor dents and scratches that are not your fault but can cost you a lot of cash. Always go over the car for damage with a company rep before you drive away, otherwise they might try and hold you responsible for someone else’s mess.

Renting a car is a necessity when you travel, whether on vacation or on a business trip. Following tips will help you getting excellent rates and will save you hundred of dollars!

CAR RENTAL COMPANY SELECTION:

Finding a good deal on rental car is much easier with several internet websites. You can compare prices between different rental car companies, their total cost, including all taxes, drop-off charges, etc. Once you find a good deal, always check the rental car company’s official website to compare the rates!

TYPES OF CARS:

One cool trick to get a lower rate is to book a lower category car than what you need. This is especially true when you are traveling to major cities on weekdays. Most of the car companies will offer you an upgrade free of charge, if they do not have the lower version available, and the best thing is that you will pay only for the lower category car!! Most rental car companies offer economy, compact, intermediate, deluxe car, SUV, Vans, convertibles etc. Few also offers exotic and luxury cars.

THE COST OF RENTING A CAR

The rates differ a lot based on following four options. If you are traveling for only one or two days on a business trip, then go for limited miles options. Few rental car companies offer great rates for these types of rentals.

1. Daily rate with a mileage charge

2. Daily rate with a limited number of free miles per day

3. Daily rate with unlimited mileage

4. Rate that has free mileage over an extended period..

TAXES
You can save tons of money by renting your car from off-airport location. In addition to the daily rental rate and the charges mentioned above, taxes (which vary by state) are also charged. At a few airport rental locations, some car rental firms may also charge an “airport surcharge” fee of about 10% of the rental rate in addition to normal taxes.

DROP-OFF CHARGES:
Always plan to return your car at the same location from where you rented the car. An extra fee is usually charged if a car is returned to a different city or location than where it was picked up. Be sure to advise the agent when making your reservation if you wish to drop off the car at a different location. The drop-off charge may already be included in the car rental rate.

GAS (RETURN FULL TANK)
Familiarize yourself with the car rental company’s policy on gasoline when you check in. Some companies charge you a flat rate for gas upon renting the car and expect you to return with the gas tank empty. Most, however, will assess a charge based on the firm’s gas rates for filling the gas tank when the car is returned, if it is not already full. Since gas prices are usually less expensive at gas stations, it is advisable to fill the tank before returning the car if you are expected to return it with a full tank of gas.

INSURANCE OPTIONS

You need to extra careful with these options as they make lots of money for the car companies.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) or Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
If a rental car is damaged, the renter may be responsible for the first several hundred dollars of damage (the deductible) up to the full price of the car. By purchasing CDW (also known as Loss Damage Waiver or LDW), the renter is released from responsibility of any loss or damage to a vehicle up to the full value of the car. However, if the renter is in violation of the rental agreement, the waiver is void. Your personal auto insurance may already provide coverage for damage to rental cars and the purchase of CDW or LDW may not be necessary. Regulations for selling CDW/LDW vary from state to state.

CDW/LDW is usually an optional feature, however, a few companies require renters to purchase this waiver. Determine whether or not you need CDW/LDW before you arrive at the rental counter (check your own automobile insurance policy) and consider how much this CDW/LDW may increase the daily rental rate (CDW/LDW costs range from $8 – $12 per day). In some cases, you may find a special rate for a larger car which already includes CDW/LDW. In the long run, the larger car may be less expensive than the economy car with additional CDW/LDW costs.

Also, some credit card companies offer CDW/LDW insurance as a card holder benefit. Be sure to read the fine print on these agreements (as well as on car rental agreements!) Usually the protection afforded by credit card companies could be supplemental to your own insurance. Therefore, if you get in an accident, your own insurance will cover the repair costs up to its maximum and then the credit card company will cover the difference. As a result, your own car insurance rates may be affected.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
Personal Accident Insurance provides accidental death and medical coverage for the renter and additional passengers during the time they are riding or driving with you. Check your personal car insurance policy to see if it covers car rentals. If your policy covers car rentals, you may not need PAI. This insurance is usually optional.

Personal Effects Coverage (PEC)
This coverage provides protection against loss or theft of personal belongings from the rental car. Once again, check your own auto insurance policy to determine whether your coverage includes rental cars.

Additional Liability Insurance (ALI)
ALI is an optional insurance that protects the renter and other authorized operators against claims made by third parties for bodily injury/death and property damage caused by the use or operation of the rental vehicle. Check with your own auto insurance policy to determine whether additional excess coverage is already provided.

Number of Drivers
Although policies vary, many car rental firms allow an immediate relative who is of age to drive the rental car. Some firms also permit a direct business associate to drive. Read the rental contract carefully; it will specify who can drive the car. Signatures of all drivers and their drivers licenses may be required by the rental firm. There may be a charge for any additional drivers added to the rental agreement.

AAA , COSTCO AND OTHER OFFERS

Start collecting coupons from companies like AAA, Costco etc which offers special discount to their members. Usually these coupons are valid for few months and therefore saving earlier will help you in long run. You can save as much as 50% on your daily rate with these offers!

PICKING UP YOUR CAR
Upon arriving at the car rental counter, present your confirmation number, voucher and credit card, if necessary. The customer service agent will then complete the process and direct you to where you can pick up your car. READ YOUR CAR RENTAL AGREEMENT before you sign it to familiarize yourself with your liability and to ensure that you know exactly what you will be paying for when you return the car.

Before leaving the rental lot, inspect the car for the correct mileage information and any visible damage to the car. If damaged, a notation should be made on the contract before leaving.

Take a few minutes to become familiar with the car. Adjust your seat and mirrors. Locate the controls for the turn signals, windshield wipers, lights (high and low beams) and cruise control (if applicable). Notice the placement of the horn and control panel for defroster, air conditioning, etc.

RETURNING THE RENTAL CAR
Rates are usually based on a 24-hour period, with a one-hour grace period allowed to return the car. If you keep the car for more than four hours after it was due back at the rental company, it is usually worth extending the contract for another day since overtime charges average $12 to $15 per hour. Hourly car rental rates are usually higher.

Some rates, like weekend specials, are only available during certain time periods. Keeping the car beyond that time may change the rate you pay for the entire transaction.

OVERSEAS CAR RENTALS
If you are renting a car abroad, reserve it here through your ASTA travel agent. At your destination, ask the rental agent to explain the car’s features, which may be different from cars at home. Know the international traffic signs and rules of the road. Ask your travel agent whether you need an International Driver’s Permit. Also, ask about insurance coverage in each country; U.S. insurance may not be valid in all countries.

OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION
The renter of any car is liable for all parking and traffic violations both domestically and internationally.

Most contracts and insurance policies are void if you have an accident while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Be sure to lock the car and trunk and do not leave valuables in the car.

Seat belts should be worn at all times – it’s the law in most states.

Most states require car seats for children under four years old. Advance notice is usually required to reserve a car seat and a small fee may be charged for the rental of these seats.

Many car rental firms have cars or vans that are accessible for customers with physical disabilities. Be sure to make arrangements in advance to ensure that an accessible vehicle is available.

Most major car rental companies offer free local maps. Plan your route before leaving the car rental lot to minimize the need to ask for directions.

Read your rental agreement carefully and ask questions of your travel agent and the car rental agent if you are unsure about anything. The policies discussed in this brochure may vary among companies and locations.

Renting a car could be very tricky especially for those who are renting from time to time and not well involved with the market. Knowing some tips and tricks would help a lot if you intend to rent a car. If you are going to a new city and you are searching for suitable car rental office the consider applying this procedure and you will save yourself a lot of trouble.

When you plan your next trip, search the internet for a decent car rental office where you can get a good car with a good price. First, do a little search through the internet and I am sure that you will find a handful of rental offices all around you. You can get a nice quote if you booked your car as early as possible but if you waited till the last second or if you book it from the airport then you are going to pay the highest rate.

When you tend to rent a car, try to determine what is the type of the car that you are going to need this may help you cut the costs down. For example, if you want a city transportation then take a small hatchback or sedan as it would be more than enough but, if you are going to travel for long distances on high ways then you need a bigger and more stable car and also more comfortable. When you get a big car for a long period in the city then you will need extra money for fuel, for parking and of course the car rentals.

The third and most important tip on what we have said is checking the price. Do not get dazzled by the low rates written in the advertisement, you need to check that this is the price that you are going to pay as in most of the cases this is the basal rate only and when you need to pay the bill you will find that the extra charges had multiplied the price by two or three. The first addition is the taxes which are sometimes around 20% of the price.

Airport surcharge is another charge that maybe added if you are renting your car from the airport. Here is a tip for you, take the coach to the city center then manages to find car rental there, and the price would be much cheaper.

Do not forget to fill the tank before you get your car back to the office as the car rental agent will surcharge you for the empty tank and obviously this would be more than the value that you will pay if you filled the tank yourself.

My final tip is for those who are going to rent a car abroad. You need to double check whether the country that you are travelling to requires certain fees or insurance for driving there or not as these fees would be paid by you and not by the car rental office.

At least once in your life, you need to find yourself a replacement car, even if you own one already. Most of the people who own the cars themselves, very often need a replacement car, if their own car is in the repair shop, or you are on a holiday.

Anyway, it is good to know that out there are very good car rentals. I think what makes a car rental the good one, is that they offer best-known car brands, and the prices are not high, because it is always valuable to save money.

Probably you are interested in locating a cheap car rental for your trip or even an emergency situation, then it really helps to be aware of the different outlets, that are available for getting a nice deal on a temporary car.

Before you begin your searching, you should know that there are legal requirements for allowing to rent a car. Mostly, you have to be on a certain age, usually it is 21 or 25 years of age, also valid driver license are required.

Before we proceed you have to be sure that you meet the requirements, then it is time to start looking for the service you might need for your holiday. Going for a holiday it is always important to take a look at many different car rentals, and then take some notes of them, before making your final decision. Analyse all the offered promotions carefully, and decide which one will work for your travel destination. For instance, many rental companies will offer deals for travel during the week, or on the weekends. The others might just make discounts for certain size or a type of a car.

Another thing you should always keep in mind is that it is always good to have someone inside!
