Have you read the latest Wheel’s magazine? The January 2010 edition has a wonderful section on the wonderful history of the V8 engine that we know and love today. I will share some of the hi-lights from the magazine as well as my own personal comments, so read on…
The automotive vee-eight as we know it had its birth with our friend Henry Ford with the arrival of the ‘L-Head’ flat head vee eight of 1932. We must remember that he was not responsible for inventing the 8 cylinder engine in the V format as we know and love. But he was responsible for ensuring that it was available to the masses, ie the likes of you and me! It was pretty basic and simple, no complicated overhead valves or the like, hence the term ‘flathead’. Continue reading ‘V8 Cars – Some Wonderful History of the Mighty V8 Automotive Engine’ »

Cars are a major part of a fluidly functioning society. We use cars to transport goods, get too and from work, to run errands, respond to emergency situations in a timely manner and to have fun. But cars can be an incredibly costly investment. The cost of a car goes far beyond what it takes to buy it.
Owning a car means paying for gas, general upkeep, registration, new tires or brakes, inspection stickers, major repairs from constant wear and tear or damage caused from a wreck of fender bender. Although these costs may seem overwhelming, there is a way to cut down the price of owning a car significantly. The path towards a longer life for your car with fewer repair costs is by routine maintenance.
How to maintain you Vehicle
By far the greatest cost of owning a vehicle, aside from maybe the original purchase, are repairs. Check out the New 2009 Mighty Muscular Mahindra Scorpio with Micro Hybrid Technology
Mahindra & Mahindra, the leader in utility vehicles in India, has taken the initiative to introduce the path breaking FuelSmart System for the first time in India. The FuelSmart system is an automatic engine start stop system. It has been introduced in its Scorpio M2DI and Bolero SLX BS3 models.
The start stop system automatically shuts down and restarts the automobile’s engine. The engine begins effortlessly once a driver depresses a clutch prior to moving ahead. This in turn reduces the duration for which the engine is kept idling, thereby improving fuel economy. This start stop system comes into play when the automobile has to spend considerable amounts of time waiting at traffic signals or in traffic jams. Radiator coolant keeps your engine from freezing into a block of ice during colder weather conditions or climates. But not everyone knows that radiator coolant also helps things remain cool during hot summer days. Many car owners merely drive their vehicles with nothing but water in the radiator mistakenly thinking that it is only necessary in winter.
Your radiator coolant works to raise the temperature of water to its’ boiling point thus allowing it to move more heat away from your car’s engine. That means your vehicle will run cooler. If you radiator coolant levels are too low, the temperature of your car will increase quickly.

New fuel sources are becoming more and more available, including natural gas and ethanol that experts say are plentiful by offering great gas mileage and better for the environment than gas.
Some of the alternatives include natural gas, diesel, bio-diesel, hydrogen, and ethanol.
Automobile manufactures from Europe have used diesel to operate their cars in the past while holding 40% better mileage, less pollution, and better performance. If we were to use more diesels here in the United States, experts say car manufacturers will have to improve the image of diesel vehicles as it is seen as smelly and messy, while having an extremely high cost. Some manufacturers have built diesel trucks that do not emit smoke or visible soot. Believe it or not, some race car drivers have won races using diesel.
