Gas is getting more and more expensive and if you have a long commute or if you just like to drive, the gas bill can become a burden.

Luckily there are a lot of ways to save gas without investing in a new car or in snake oil add-on kits. I’ll show you seven ways that are commonly available and easy to do.

1. MAINTAIN HIGH ENOUGH TIRE PRESSURE

Driving with under inflated tires is not only dangerous as the tires could overheat, it also uses more gas than inflated tires.

Inflate the tires to the maximum allowed by your cars manuals, and periodically check the pressure using a good pressure gauge.

Many hypermilers inflate their tires more than that, to the maximum pressure printed on the sidewalls of the tires themselves. This is often as much as 50 percent more than what the car manufacturer recommends and it will give additional gas savings due to lesser rolling resistance.

This comes at the cost of a harder more uncomfortable ride though. And I can’t recommend you outright to do this, even if it’s safe, as there is a possibility of uneven tire wear in some conditions.

2. REMOVE ROOF RACKS, SKI BOXES AND TRAILERS

If you thought it’s too much of a hassle to remove the roof rack or ski box when it’s not needed, think again! It’s the same thing if you drive a pick-up truck missing a flatbed cover or if you tow an empty trailer for no reason.

Anything added or tied to the outside of the vehicle disturbs the aerodynamics resulting in reduced fuel economy. Always remove roof racks, bicycle holders, ski boxes and trailers when not needed.

3. TURN OFF THE A/C

Despite what some would say the air conditioning unit is using a lot of energy and that energy is taken directly from your gas tank. If possible, turn it off. If that’s uncomfortable try setting it to a higher temperature as that will make it use less gas.

TIP: Park the car in the shadow, have the doors open for a minute before leaving, drive at night if going for a longer trip in hot weather.

Just keep in mind that driving fast with all windows open is worse for your gas mileage than using the A/C.

4. BECOME A BETTER DRIVER

The way you drive is one of the biggest factors affecting your fuel mileage. Refrain from breaking by letting your vehicle roll to a stop when you’re not in the way of other drivers, maintain a top speed below 60MPH or 100KM/H and don’t push the pedal to the metal when you accelerate.

5. WALK OR BIKE

Often if you’re not going that far, walking or biking is a healthy alternative, and it’s significantly more economic than using the car. Not only will you save fuel but you’ll also avoid the wear and tear on the car that can cost as much as the fuel itself.

6. FIX ANY FUEL LEAKS

Obviously if you have a fuel leak you will spill your hard earned gas on the ground costing you money and polluting the environment. Repair all fuel leaks as soon as you can.

TIP: If your gas cap is missing or broken and you live in a hot environment, especially if you park in the sun and the car gets really hot, a lot of gas will evaporate and escape through the missing or broken cap into the air. The loss can be sizable and the gas vapors harms the environment.

7. CAR POOL

Sharing the vehicle on the way to the job can feel like a fair amount of hassle compared to going by yourself but then you’ll save more using this ritual than using any of the others (except for biking of course).

Joining with just one other person to use the same car for your commute will save you almost half your monthly commuting cost.

MORE FUEL SAVING TIPS

The above tips are some of the easiest, most widely available, low cost ways to save lots of gas. And you don’t have to buy any new gadgets to do it.

There are many additional ways to improve your mpg. You can get a more fuel efficient vehicle (hybrid, diesel, smaller car), improve your driving style, improve your cars aerodynamics, use tires with a low rolling resistance, plan your trip, plan for extreme weather and much more that this article is too short to cover.

There’s also ways you could end up NOT saving fuel, like if you install on of those fuel saving gadgets advertised everywhere. These gadgets rarely saves you enough fuel to even cover the price of the gadget.

To keep track of your actual gas mileage you can use a handy online mpg calculator. You can also use the fuel mileage display of your car if it’s equipped with one.

If you want to save at the pump this is it and it keeps your fuel system clean. This is a fuel re-formulator. Get better gas mileage and pull or drive stronger than you ever have. This product will work on any gas or diesel equipment and the fuel will last longer when not in use so don’t worry about using other additives to keep fuel from going bad when in storage just be sure the product is in the whole system before you shut it down or winterize it. I have been a mechanic and a truck driver most of my life (over 30 yrs.) and I have tried many products and I have owned motorhomes, trucks, and trailers.

This is what I use: Duralube in my engine and mileage max in my fuel and that way I know I’m protected and I’m getting the best fuel economy possible. It only takes 1 oz to 10 gal.Every other fill up.So go to the website and read all about it. In my Ford Expedition I went from 12.5 to 17mpg in 4 tanks and the more you use it the better it gets up to a point and you will know what that point is when your increase stops and stays the same and your emissions are reduced to about 30% anyway in my case. The company that produces this product is a US Company out of Arizona so if your not satisfied with the product just send it back for a full refund.

The military is using this as is several large transportation co. and a county in Florida demands its use so go to the website and read all about it. Just copy and paste this into your address bar and see for yourself. http://idahogreenfuel.com

Get the Most From Your Gas Tank!

The high gas prices of 2008 made even simple travel such as going to work, dropping the kids off, or even going out for a movie financially painful. Even though gas prices have come down, who knows how long they’ll stay there?! So let me help you get the most from your gas tank…in fact, you could even drive a FREE Escalade ;with these tips and your wallet won’t complain.
• Go easy on the gas when accelerating. No need to go stoplight racing just to see who gets to use their brakes first. Acceleration uses significant amounts of gas.
• Enable overdrive. If you drive an automatic, make sure overdrive is enabled. Disabling it locks out your highway gear which is the most fuel efficient
• Use the cruise control when possible. Your car is capable of keeping itself at a set speed much better than you can.
• Keep the windows up and air conditioner off. Use the vent instead. Save the AC for the hottest of hot days.
• Master your inertia. The light up ahead turned red? Take your foot off the gas and coast. Gently apply your brakes and gradually slow down. Try to time it so you get back on the gas as the light turns green.
• Keep your tires properly inflated and stay current on maintenance. Nothing like a busted oxygen sensor to put your fuel economy in the tank!
Sure gas is cheap now but who knows how long that will last. Use these tips and you’ll be filling up so scarcely, you might forget which side your gas tank is on! So get out there, drive smart, and enjoy your car!

P.S. In case you missed it, you can win a FREE Escalade just by clicking here!

Everyone will need to rent a car at certain periods in their life, for various reasons and needs. The reasons to rent a car may be to travel to another city or country, to drive to a destination after taking a flight, to move to a new house, or to temporarily replace your car during maintenance. There are many car rental companies to choose from, it will help to shop around and do your research to find the best companies to rent the vehicle. Most of these companies have a website for rental information, such as the requirements, types of cars, their office locations, and specials for renting their cars.

You may like to take advantages of the rental specials that the rental companies will offer to save money. It will be helpful to avoid rental hassles to read the details about the agreement or contract information. Check out the rates for renting the car for you like, most rental companies will prefer credit cards as payment.

Find out the nearest office locations for picking up the cars, many rental companies have a location at the airport for your convenience to pickup the car. There are options to pickup the car yourself or the company will deliver the car to you at a fee, be sure to visually inspect the car before taking it. You should check whether the rental company will fill the gasoline for you or you will be responsible for it. There are also many useful tips for cars at http://www.fidetips.com/car for you to read.

They will also ask if you would like to use your own insurance or purchase their insurance coverage. If you decide to use yours, find out if your own insurance company will cover the car rental insurance during the rental duration. Decide ahead of the rentals that if any other people will be driving the vehicle too, because the rental company will need to include the other people in the rental contract.

There are so many types or models of cars to choose from, you should find out which one will be the best for your purpose. Choices like small cars, medium cars, large cars, SUV, fuel efficient green cars, vans with higher capacity, convertible, cargo vans, and moving trucks. If you would like to save on gas, it will be wise to rent a small or fuel efficient green car. But if you are going to take a prospect or client of yours to dinner during the rental, it will be more proper to rent a larger or a luxurious model. It will be right to rent a cargo van or moving truck, if you are moving to a new house or moving the cargos of your company. Therefore, appropriate car rental research and planning will always help you with a smoother car rental experience.

Going back to the 70′s and 80′s, if you had a family, most case scenario, you had a station wagon. Then along came the development of the SUV, a truck body on a car chassis. The SUV was a necessity for every household, even eclipsing the popularity of the minivan which was known as the family vehicle of the 90′s. The craze didn’t stop there though; larger and larger SUV’s were developed and finally came the mega-size SUV. This was like a mini-van, in that it could almost hold an entire soccer team. Along with the regular SUV’s, these mega-sized SUV’s were getting on average 9-12 miles per gallon, but they were being compensated for the low gas mileage by increasing the size of the gas tank to 14 – 16 gallons.

Shortly after the millennium shift, gas began rising at a steady pace. Every time we went to the pump the price went up a few more cents. Everyone complained, but they kept buying the SUV’s for the “size and comfort”, but as soon as the prices hit $2:50/gal. and higher, SUV consumers began to doubt their vehicles worth. Even with the extra perks, with its wide space, the amount of money people began dumping into the tank was daunting. Now with the national average of gasoline at $4.24/gal, the cost to fill those 14 gallon tanks is a hard to swallow price, of at least $60.

With the reality of paying close to $100 to fill up a gas tank, the popularity of the SUV has dropped drastically. With these opinions and realizations taking hold, an investment in an SUV in today’s market is considered a waste of money, if not a ridiculous notion. To add to that, the federal government is saying that the price of gas will likely rise even more.

In response to these rising prices, the car companies are developing Hybrids and flex-fuel engines that get over 30 mpg for the same size of vehicle. The direction is to trade in low gas mileage vehicles for something a lot more fuel efficient. The only good news for current SUV owners is that these new vehicles still have a hefty price tag. The higher the gas prices, the more unhappy the general public and media will grow toward the SUV’s, which will in turn make its value sky rocket down. If those SUV owners don’t act now and try to sell their vehicles, they will end up having a vehicle whose value is based merely on the scrap metal that can be salvaged and recycled from its parts.
