It doesn’t always make sense to use your own car – particularly if you are going on holiday or travelling somewhere in the UK by train for example.

You may still want to use a car when you get to your destination. This is what makes renting a car such a good option. What do you think about when you are considering hiring a car?

For many people the first answer is price. This is very important of course but you should also put the issue of size high on your list. If you don’t you may end up with the wrong car for your needs.

For example, how many people will be sharing the car with you? If you are travelling on your own you might want something smaller that is still quite comfortable for you. If you have the whole family with you then clearly something bigger is in order. This is particularly true if you have young children. You will need enough room to fit them all in with the required car seats and still have enough room left for the luggage.

This brings up the point of boot space as well. While larger cars will generally have more in the way of boot space, not all large cars will have the same amount. It’s worth doing a bit of research to see which one will easily be able to accommodate your luggage.

You should also consider how far you will be going in the rental car. The cost of petrol or diesel will push up the total price you will pay for your rental. So think about getting something that is fuel efficient as well as comfortable and spacious enough for your needs.

The question of distance is important in more than one way however. For example it makes sense you would want to save money on fuel. You need to think about comfort as well. Driving a couple of hundred miles in a small car won’t be as pleasurable as driving the same distance in a saloon car. Don’t try and save money to the extent that you will be constantly fidgeting around and feeling too squashed in as you head towards your destination.

As you can see there is more to think about than you may at first assume when it comes to car hire. That’s why you should never automatically go for the first type of car that comes into your mind. Consider all your needs first and then look at the prices. Car rental doesn’t have to be difficult. If you take a look at the wide range of cars available before booking your ideal one, you will find it easier to make the right choice.
