Utmost Care!!! Utmost Care!!! The service I received with Gladstone Suzuki was of this utmost care, while friendly at the same time with out getting awkward. I would come to Auto Truck Source in Gladstone to purchase an additional Nissan Frontier truck again!

UNDERSTANDING!!! I just want to let everyone know what an amazing job Gladstone Suzuki did for me! Now I had been shopping with many dealerships in Beaverton on 122nd along with dealers on Mcgloughlin. I can’t tell you how significantly run around I got from almost all of them. I mean, yes I’m picky but I knew pretty significantly what I wanted vehicle wise, and knew what my budget was. not having naming any names there’s a number of other “Large” dealers on Mcgloughlin blvd where the salesman were really pushy, kind of rude on the phone etc. Not to mention calling some on the dealerships and driving all the way across town to see a car- then POOF- it sold within the 2 hours it took me to get there…Yeah thanks for the call to save me the trip. I worked with a guy by the name of Mike Case- at Gladstone Suzuki- he was exceptionally honest and upfront, worked with me showing me many several vehicles. Gladstone Suzuki was extremely professional and understanding and I got a excellent deal! devoid of the back and forth B.S. I got everywhere else.

Beyond Expectations…!!! Above and beyond!!! Gladstone Suzuki and Auto Truck Source in Gladstone went above and beyond expectations to create my Toyota Corolla purchasing knowledge pleasant!

Sending My Family!!! Not Pushy!! Nice guys at Gladstone Suzuki! I feel excellent about my order of my Jeep Wrangler from Gladstone Suzuki. Not pushy at all which I genuinely liked. I will for sure send my Family members and friends to Auto Truck Source in Gladstone!

When pursuing a career as a truck driver owner-operator, there are many things to consider in taking the next step. One of them is how to get a new truck. Rather than leasing one from an employer, it is always more profitable to own one when the work is available or if someone wants to own their own company. Deciding whether to buy a new or used truck is key in making a profit versus barely getting by. Obtaining commercial truck financing is usually the difference between buying a new or used vehicle.

New Equipment

Having a new vehicle of any sort is always nice, whether it is a personal vehicle or one used for business. It has a special smell, is spry and comes with all of the state-of-the-art features. Paying for it is the biggest obstacle most people face. Excellent credit is required. Many lenders are leery of first-time owner-operators purchasing new equipment and may not be willing to qualify the applicant for a loan. Once the person is approved, several things must be done before the truck is road ready. Paying for taxes, titles, tags and a business license are also required. Making regular monthly payments on the vehicle regardless of how much money is coming in is also a consideration. Keep in mind that payments are higher for a new truck than an old one.

Buying Used

Purchasing a used vehicle carries many of the same expenses as a new one, but at a smaller cost. Monthly payments are cheaper, as are taxes on the vehicle’s value. Tags and business fees are the same. Regular maintenance costs are at least equal to those for a new vehicle. It is easier, however, to obtain commercial truck financing from a company that specializes in used vehicles for owner-operators. They often have access to vehicles such as used Freightliner trucks or used Peterbilt trucks. Columbia trucks are also affordable for owner-operators ready to take the next step. Be sure to thoroughly check over the vehicle to see what condition it is in before making the commitment. Ask for any available receipts or paperwork regarding maintenance or warranties. Used vehicles can be reliable or refurbished to be like new. Taking the time to find the right truck may make the difference between a smart investment and a financial pitfall.

Repairs

On new vehicles the heat and air conditioning work and there are no odd noises or vibrations to investigate or fix. Brand-new vehicles are unlikely to break down and require little serious maintenance for the first several hundred thousand miles. After that, they meet the same level in maintenance as a used one. As an owner-operator of any truck, it is the individual’s responsibility to make sure that weekly, monthly and annual maintenance checks are done to prolong the life of the vehicle. Regular maintenance takes time away from hauling jobs on the road and creates regular bills. Before making the commitment to purchase any vehicle, be sure the ability to make the monthly payments and maintain the upkeep is there.

The new 2010 F-150 Raptor, born in Baja and designed by the Ford Truck Special Vehicle Team (SVT) is built from the ground up. Another truck from Ford that’s “Built Ford Tough” and really stands up to it’s name, the Raptor is ready to tackle the untamed terrain of off road running.

On November 25, 2008 the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor R race truck survived the grueling 41′st Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, finishing the race in 25:28:10, which resulted in a third-in-class finish.

As any off roader will tell you the key to an off road vehicle is it’s chassis, it’s suspension and it’s shocks. With the Raptor’s flamboyant, seven-foot-wide body work plastered with digital mud, an industry first, long travel suspension, it’s one truck that’s sure to draw a lot of attention on or off the road.

A track widened seven inches over a normal F-150, with re-inforced underpinnings suspended by unique front coil springs and rear leaf springs, are what gives the Raptor it’s impressive front/rear suspension articulation of 11.2 and 12.1 inches respectively. The SVT stampings on the aluminum control arms are another cool feature. But the real magic lies in the massive, three stage internal by-pass shocks from Fox Racing. On the highway, the Raptor feels much like the softer-sprung, four wheeled drive F-150 on which it’s based, with the shocks keeping the body from flopping about during transitions.

At each corner are beefed up disc brakes (13.8 in front, 13.7 in the rear) surrounded by 17-inch alloy wheels and SVT specific 35-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain tires. Differentials with 4.10:1 gears turn the hefty rolling stock, and the rear axel sports an electronic locker that can spool both wheels together for maximum traction. The two stage electronic stability control system also has a special off-road-mode that raises the threshhold for yaw and anti lock brake intervention, sharpens the throttle response, re-maps the six speed automatic to hold gears longer, and allows the locking differential to stay activated up to the vehicles top speed. A hill decent control system helps to limit speed while crawling down steep hills.

The Raptors most surprising feature is that it performs much like a regular F-150 on the highway. Braking performance is respectable and the extra cushion in the suspension makes for a compliant ride with less of the rear axel hop common with unloaded pick-ups.

The mostly standard F-150 cab has nicely bolstered sport seats and a contoured steering wheel to keep you supported and comfortable while driving. Other touches include white faced SVT gauges and console mounted controls for the off road electronics and auxilary power switches. There are other cool details too, including skid plates, heat extractors on the hood and fenders, hydroformed bumpers and LED marker lights in the grille and on the flared wheel arches. Available colors will be limited to orange, black, blue or white.

If you are really into power and speed you may want to wait until early next year when a new Boss 6.2 litre V-8 will be available, packing around 400 horsepower.

Ford says it’s Dearborn truck plant will be able to turn out up to 5000 or so Raptors annually and that there will be plenty of performance accessories available in the near future.

SPECIFICATIONS

Vehicle type: Front engine, 4-wheel drive, 5 passenger 2+2-door truck

Engine type: SOHC 24-valve V-8, aluminum block and heads, port fuel injection

Driving a big rig on a mountain road is very different from traveling on a flat highway. With the immense amount of weight being hauled in your trailer, you’ll want to be sure you get down the mountain safely. But before you go down the mountain, you have to climb up.

For the most part, you need to find the highest gear possible to pull you up the mountain, but when the truck starts to bog down, you’ll have to shift into a lower gear. You also need to keep a watch on the temperature gauge. Even though the truck seems to be taking you up the mountain in a high gear with no problem, it may begin to overheat. Shift down a gear – you will travel slower but are less likely to have an overheating problem.

Now that you have successfully climbed the mountain, it’s time to come down. There are some general rules for traveling safely down a steep grade. One of them being “Go down the mountain in the same gear you used going up.” This is good advice if you’re driving an older truck with a simple transmission, but today’s trucks are built differently. Some have 600 horsepower engines and 18-speed transmissions. These big rigs have little problem making it up the mountain, but you shouldn’t fly down the other side.

Some of the advice you’ll hear about traveling down a mountain is about how to use your brakes. Do not keep a gentle but steady pressure on your brake pedal the entire way down the mountain. This will cause your brakes to overheat and possibly catch fire – and maybe lose the use of your brakes altogether, sending you into a freefall.

A good way to maintain a safe speed down the mountainside is to determine a maximum safe speed – say 50 MPH. Apply the brakes firmly when you reach your maximum speed, until it is about 5 – 10 MPH lower. Then let off the brakes until it reaches your maximum speed, giving the brakes time to cool between pushes – and making them less likely to overheat. If you brake to 45 MPH and you find you reach 50 MPH too quickly, brake to 40 MPH. Release the brakes at let it roll. If it still reaches 50 MPH too quickly, set a lower maximum speed.

You can determine a safe maximum speed by calculating the equipment, road characteristics and weight of your load. Some mountain roads are long and winding, while others are short and steep. The first time you travel a mountain road, you’ll be going in blind so be sure to stay alert and practice safe driving techniques. After you travel the road a couple of times and you get to know the road characteristics, you’ll know a safe speed for your equipment.

Experience makes you a better driver, when it comes to traveling mountain roads.

The answers are…yes..yes..yes..and yes!

With the Wrangler leading the pack on ridiculous pricing in the new and used markets it’s no wonder that there is so much “Buyer’s Shock”.

So what’s so special about Jeeps and the Jeep Wrangler especially? Wranglers are relatively uncomfortable, rough riding, cramped for space and bad on gas mileage. With those credentials who would want to waste their time and a boat load of money on these things?

The overused expression “It’s a Jeep thing…you wouldn’t understand!” does sum most of it up in a nutshell. However, many folks really WANT to understand this phenomenon, because these Jeep guys and gals riding around with smiles on their collective faces can’t help but raise curiosity among the uninitiated.

Sure, a lot of us have envisioned ourselves like John Wayne in the movie “Hatari” racing through the wilds of Africa in a beat up Jeep CJ6, or running the Baja 1000 full bore in a tricked out Wrangler racer. However, most Jeep owners use their rigs as everyday drivers and take them off roading, camping, hunting, fishing or exploring only occasionally.

The real draw to most of us Jeep owners is in the knowing that we have a rare type of vehicle (with a long heroic history) which can pull all sorts of duty from daily driver mild to off road warrior extreme whenever we are so inclined.

THAT is what puts a smile on our faces whenever we strap-in to our favorite rigs headed for the convenience store…or the wide open desert trails.

Is it worth the expensive price to drive this true American icon? Well, that’s a question only you can answer for yourself.

As for me and millions of other enthusiasts throughout the world…we think it’s definitely worth it!
